    FAQ

1. What is tabs4acoustic?

Tabs4acoustic.com is a free website specialized in acoustic guitar tabs.

2. What is tablature?

Tablature is a simple and the most common method of notation for string instruments. Instead of using symbols like in standard musical notation, it uses ordinary ASCII characters and numbers, making it ideal for places like the internet. A tablature usually indicates a tone with notation referring to the finger and string used to create it.
It may also have a letter next to the indicated fret number, this usually means 'how to play that note'.

3. How to read a tab?

You start out with 6 lines: these lines correspond to the guitar's strings. The top line is the highest pitch string, and the bottom line is the lowest pitch string. Numbers are written on the lines to show you where to fret the string with the left hand. If a zero appears, this means play the open string. Like standard musical notation, you read from left to right to find out what order to play the notes.

Here's a list of the most commonly used symbols:

h= hammer on
p= pull off
/= slide up
\= slide down
~= vibrato
x= muted, struck string

4. What is the meaning of the letters above the lyrics?

Every letter corresponds to a chord (a combination of notes played simultaneously). There are all types of chords, but all will fall under two categories: major and minor chords.
You can read about the meaning of these letters at the begining of each tab.

5. How to read a chord?

Reading a chord diagram is far simpler than reading music. All you need to do is understand where to put your fingers to form a chord.
You start out with 6 numbers: these correspond to the strings of the guitar. The first number is the the lowest pitch string while the 6th is the highest pitch string. These numbers show you where to fret the strings with the left hand.
0's are used to indicate that a string is left "open" (played but not fretted). An X indicates that the string should be muted or not played.

6. Some songs were not tabbed in their original tuning, why?

Because it's easier to sing them tuned down if the original voice is much too acute. (ex: what's up, hotel california, etc.)

7. Why can't we copy and paste the tabs?

Tabbing an accurate score for the acoustic guitar represents a lot of work, and we want to protect the exclusiveness of these guitar transcriptions.

8. Why providing only about a hundred tabs?

This website is not a guitar tabs meta search engine, we specialize only in acoustic tabs.

9. How often is Tabs 4 Acoustic updated?

We tab 3 acoustic guitar scores per month.
